Schumer, Clinton Announce Over $1.3 Million For Albany International Airport

Federal Money will be used for Improvements and Rehabilitation

US Senators Charles E. Schumer and Hillary Rodham Clinton today announced that the US Department of Transportation has awarded $1,330,773 in Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) funds to the Albany International Airport. The money will be used for a second phase of improvements and rehabilitation.

“This is great news for the Capital Region," said Schumer. "The Albany International Airport welcomes travelers to New York each year, and these improvements are important for local businesses and strengthening the local economy. I will continue to fight for federal funds to help the airport remain a thriving center of activity and a hub for economic growth in the region."

“Albany International Airport is truly one of the gateways to New York and an integral part of the economy. It is important that we do everything we can to support it,” Senator Clinton said. “Any opportunity we have to improve access to this airport is critical, because more flights and better service simply means more jobs and more opportunities for the region.”

This grant will provide federal funding for Phase II of improvements to the terminal ramp area at Albany International Airport. The project will convert cargo, automobile, and truck parking into usable aircraft parking spaces. The federal money will be used for demolition of the old cargo building, site restoration, utility replacement and relocation, and to create concrete “hard stand” pavement to park four 737 jets. Each jet needs one acre to park. This will enable the airport to park four additional planes overnight for early morning flights.
