Schumer Announces Over $38,000 For NYSARC, Inc. Chemung County Chapter
Federal Funds Will Be Used Towards a Community Job Center for Students with Disabilities at Arnot Mall
U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer today announced that a grant of $38,701 has been awarded to NYSARC, Inc. Chemung County Chapter by the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC). The federal funds will be used towards a community job center for students with disabilities at Arnot Mall.
“This is great news for the residents of Chemung County,” Schumer said. “The transition into employment can be challenging for our students, and these federal funds will ensure that they get the best training and coaching available to adequately prepare them for employment.”
Federal funds will be used for a Community Job Center in Arnot Mall. Students with disabilities from the Elmira, Elmira Heights and Horseheads School Districts and Greater Southern Tier BOCES will learn skills to aid in the transition into employment. The center will be staffed by the Chemung NYSARC Southern Tier Employment Program and the BOCES. They will provide job readiness training, job shadowing experiences and on the job couching with employers in and around the mall.
Each year the ARC provides funding for several hundred projects that create thousands of new jobs, improve local water and sewer systems, increase school readiness, expand access to health care, assist local communities with strategic planning, and provide technical, managerial, and marketing assistance to emerging new businesses.
