SCHUMER ANNOUNCES OVER $1.8 MILLION COMING TO TOWN OF BATAVIA FOR TWO NEW WATER DISTRICTS

Grant-Loan Combination Will Be Used to Build New Rural Water Districts - Enhance Quality of Life, Service One Hundred Citizens

U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer today announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded grants and loans totaling $1,833,800 to the Town of Batavia under the USDA Rural Development Water and Waste Disposal Direct Loan and Grant Program. The funds include a grant of $289,200 and a loan for $886,000 for a new Alexander and Pike Road water district reaching eighty citizens, in addition to a $432,600 grant and $226,000 loan for a new Rose Road water district servicing an additional twenty citizens.

"This is a great step forward for Batavia," said Schumer. "Quality infrastructure development is critical to the economic health not only of Genesee County, but all of Western New York."

The USDA Rural Development Water and Waste Disposal Grant and Loan program provides funds to reduce water and waste disposal costs to a reasonable level for rural users. The grant program also sends funds to help develop water and waste disposal systems in rural areas and towns.  Grants can be used to construct, repair, modify, expand, and improve water supply and distribution systems, acquire needed land and water sources, and pay for legal and engineering fees when necessary to build facilities.
