Schumer: New York Will Have an Unprecedented Voice at the Top Levels of the Federal Government
U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer today announced that he will deliver the formal introductions on behalf of President-Elect Barack Obama’s nominees to be Secretary of State, Treasury, and Housing and Urban Development at their coming confirmation hearings on Capitol Hill. The hearings for Senator Hillary Clinton, Timothy Geithner, and Shaun Donovan are all scheduled to be held next week and by tradition, a close supporter of the nominee introduces them to the relevant oversight committee. All three of these nominees are New Yorkers.
“It is a great honor to introduce and fully support the nominations of these extraordinary New Yorkers,” Schumer said. “All three are eminently qualified to hold these posts and I was humbled that they would extend me the invitation to introduce them before the committees. I look forward to participating in their hearings and working with them once they are confirmed to be part of President Obama’s cabinet. With these nominees,
Senator Clinton’s confirmation hearing, as well as that of New York City Housing Commissioner Donovan, will be held on Tuesday, January 13 before the Foreign Relations and Banking committee’s respectively. New York Federal Reserve Chairman Timothy Geithner’s hearing is expected to be held on Thursday, January 15th before the Finance Committee. In addition to making the introductions, Schumer is a member of both the Finance and Banking committees and so will participate in Donovan and Geithner’s hearing.
