SCHUMER, GILLIBRAND, MURPHY ANNOUNCE MORE THAN $765,000 IN FEDERAL FUNDING FOR CONSTRUCTION OF INDUSTRIAL PARK IN GLENS FALLS

Federal Dollars Will Help Create An Estimated 1,000 New Jobs In Glens Falls

Washington, DC – U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand and Representative Scott Murphy today announced $765,336 in federal funding for the development of the Tech Meadows Industrial Park located in Glens Falls from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration. The grant will help establish necessary water lines, sewer lines and other pieces of infrastructure, and will allow for the completion of the Park.  This project will establish new High-Tech manufacturing facilities in the region and will ultimately create an estimated 1,000 new jobs. The representatives personally weighed in with the Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke in favor of this project.

“Building infrastructure is one of the best investments the federal government makes to create jobs and grow the economy, so this grant is exactly what the doctor ordered for Glens Falls,” said Senator Schumer. “This will enable Glens Falls and Warren County to attract the materials suppliers and tool makers that will look to locate near the GlobalFoundries semiconductor fabrication plant in Malta.”

“This is the right investment for Glens Falls,” Senator Gillibrand said. “The high-tech industry holds the power to rebuild our economy for the 21st century, and no other state is poised to lead in the high-tech economy of the future like New York. The Tech Meadows Industrial Park will attract new investments to the region – creating new good-paying jobs right here at home and revitalizing our local economy.”

“In order to attract new jobs and businesses to Upstate New York, we must first invest in the essential infrastructure, like waste water and water management systems, that support economic growth,” said Congressman Murphy. “This funding is an important step to bringing new jobs to Glens Falls, and expanding our area's long term commitment to the innovation economy and its associated high-tech industries, such as the fields of nano-technology and medical devices.”

Glens Falls Mayor John “Jack” Diamond said, “Our economic development team of Murphy, Gillibrand and Schumer has delivered the key funding to complete the development of Tech Meadows. With these funds in hands, work can get underway to finalize water and sewer lines and related infrastructure to the 40 acre site. The Tech Meadows project thanks to this advocacy of Murphy, Gillibrand and Schumer will allow for the potential expansion of apprenticeship and job training opportunities in this region, creation of nano-technology, medical devices and instruments and computer chip manufacturing clusters to be developed in this Glens  Falls Region."

The Economic Development Administration allocated a $765,336 grant to the Greater Glens Falls Development Corporation for the construction of water and sewer lines and related infrastructure that will support the development of the Tech Meadows Industrial Park. Through tax-cuts, and other incentives, the new facilities at Tech Meadows Industrial Park will attract new industries – allowing for the expansion of the nano-technology, medical instruments, and computer chip manufacturing clusters. This project is estimated to create 1,000 new good-paying jobs.
