Shaheen: The Only Thing Sweeter Than the Taste of Craft Brews from the Granite State Will be the Taste of Victory When the Patriots Beat the Giants

Today, U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer (D-Giants) placed a friendly wager with his colleague from New Hampshire, Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-Patriots), over the Super Bowl between the Giants and the Patriots. Schumer wagered beer from six of New York’s finest craft breweries: Brooklyn Brewery, Blue Point Brewing Company, Saranac Matt Brewing Company, Captain Lawrence Brewing Company, Ithaca Beer Company, and Brown’s Brewing Company. If the Giants beat the Patriots, Shaheen will purchase a beer from six of New York’s finest craft breweries, for each member of the Senate. If the Patriots beat the Giants, Schumer will purchase beer from New Hampshire’s Smuttynose brewery and supply it to the entire U.S. Senate.

“I can’t wait for Senator Shaheen to participate in the ‘I Love New York Brew’ Campaign by buying the best craft brews in New York and supplying them to every member of the United States Senate,” said Schumer. “When Big Blue brings Tom Brady and Bill Belichick to their knees, the entire U.S. Senate will understand why we love New York brew. Go Giants!”

“This Sunday, the only thing sweeter than the taste of craft beer brewed in the Granite State will be the taste of victory when the Patriots beat the Giants,” Shaheen said. “I look forward to joining the rest of my fellow Senators as we wash down New England’s win with some of New Hampshire’s best brews, courtesy of Senator Schumer.”

According to the terms of the bet, if the Giants beat the Patriots, Shaheen will purchase beer from six of New York’s craft brew companies from around the state, including New York’s Brooklyn Brewery, Blue Point Brewing Company, Saranac Matt Brewing Company, Captain Lawrence Brewing Company, Ithaca Beer Company, and Brown’s Brewing Company. If the Patriots beat the Giants, Schumer will purchase beer from New Hampshire’s Smuttynose Brewery.

Schumer has long been a supporter of New York’s craft brewing industry. In December, Schumer announced the creation of his “I Love NY Brew” campaign to place more locally-brewed, New York beer in New York City and state restaurants, bars and convenience store shelves. Schumer is pushing to expand New York brewers’ market share so that they can grow their business and hire more employees in a business that currently supports nearly 60,000 New York jobs.
