SCHUMER, GILLIBRAND ANNOUNCE OVER $326,000 FEDERAL INVESTMENT FOR ORANGE COUNTY TO DEVELOP VACANT WATERFRONT PROPERTY

Department of Transportation Award of $326,250 Will Allow Orange County to Purchase and Develop Vacant Waterfront Property Along Delaware River

Schumer, Gillibrand: Waterfront Development will Bring Jobs, Boost Tourism in Hudson Valley

Today, U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced that $326,250 in federal funding was awarded to the New York State Department of Transportation to allow Orange County to purchase and redevelop vacant waterfront property along the Delaware River. Specifically, the funding will allow Orange County to acquire and preserve over 17 acres of vacant Delaware River waterfront property in Sparrowbush, NY.

“Properly developing the area along the Delaware River will bring jobs and boost tourism in Orange County,” said Schumer. “This funding from the Department of Transportation will improve the Sparrowbush for residents and visitors alike.

“This is a smart investment for Orange County,” Senator Gillibrand said. “When we invest in redeveloping the Delaware River waterfront in Sparrowbush, we can attract new businesses and new jobs, and build on what makes Orange County such a great place to live, work, and raise a family.”

The National Scenic Byways Program through the Federal Highway Administration provides funding to States and Indian tribes to implement projects on highways designated as National Scenic Byways; All-American Roads; America's Byways®; State scenic byways; or Indian tribe scenic byways; and to plan, design, and develop a State or Indian tribe scenic byway program.  Funding supports projects that manage and protect outstanding scenic, historic, cultural, natural, recreational, and archaeological qualities along these byways; interpret these qualities for visitors; and improve visitor facilities.
