Schumer, Clinton Announce Over $48,000 For Buffalo Airfield

Federal Money Will Be Used to Acquire Easements and Increase Safety

U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Hillary Rodham Clinton today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded a grant of $48,523 to the Buffalo Airfield for easement acquisition.

“This is great news for Buffalo,” said Schumer. “The Buffalo Airfield is an important general aviation facility in this region. Not only does it provide local aviators and tourists with a base of operation, but it allows businesspeople visiting New York to access the region easily. I will continue to fight for federal funds to help these airports maintain the highest standards of safety, and remain key component of economic growth in the region."

“The Buffalo Airfield has served countless travelers and businesses during its 60 years in service,” said Senator Clinton.  “This funding will help to ensure the continued safe operation of the Airfield for the corporate, recreational and other customers who use it and in turn, provide a continued economic boost for the local businesses that support it and rely on it every day.”

Buffalo Airfield, Inc. will use the grant to acquire easements for the Runway 6/24 Protection Zone and increase land commitment credit at the Airfield. The acquisition of easements will allow the airport to control the land and allow for future obstruction removal, increasing overall safety.
