Schumer, Clinton Announce Over $70,000 For Syracuse Hancock International Airport

Federal Money Will Be Used For Obstruction Removal

U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Hillary Rodham Clinton today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded $71,250 in Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) funds to Onondaga County for Syracuse Hancock International Airport.  Federal funds will be used to perform an environmental assessment for airport obstruction removal.

“This is great news for Syracuse," said Schumer. "Syracuse Hancock International Airport welcomes tourists traveling to New York each year, and these improvements are important for local businesses and strengthening the local economy.  I will continue to fight for federal funds to help the airport remain a thriving center of activity and a hub for economic growth in the region."

“The Syracuse Hancock International airport is a gateway to Central New York and an important hub for commerce and transportation,” said Senator Clinton. “These federal dollars are well invested to keep this airport maintained and operating efficiently.  I will continue to advocate for federal support of New York’s airports, which are essential to the state’s economic growth.”

Onondaga County will use federal funds to perform an environmental assessment for airport obstruction removal at Syracuse Hancock International Airport. The project will satisfy the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act and the State Environmental Quality Review Act.
