Schumer: New Site Will Link Jobs & HV Workers With The Skills New High-Tech Jobs Demand

Today, U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer called on biotech and health care companies throughout the Hudson Valley to post new biotech job listings on a brand new, style website that is being launched to link Hudson Valley workers with new jobs in the growing biotechnology industry. The Hudson Valley Economic Development Corporation (HVEDC), New York State Biotechnology Association (NYSBA), and NY Biohud Valley (NYBHV) are teaming together to establish a new website specifically tailored to over 250 growing biotechnology companies located in New York. The groups are offering each company 10 free job listings to help launch the site, and will allow companies to post for a minimal fee going forward. The site will serve as a one-stop-shop for individuals looking for jobs at one of the Hudson Valley’s growing biotech and health care firms.

“After several large biotech companies told me they had high-paying jobs being vacant for months and even years, it became crystal clear that we need to improve matching workers with available job openings in the Hudson Valley’s growing biotech industry. This style site will be tailored to fit the needs of our explosive biotechnology industry here in the Hudson Valley,” said Schumer. “It’s going to help qualified workers find jobs here in New York in a business that is growing faster than almost any other. I’m strongly urging every company, large and small, to post their job openings on the site to help grow the local economy and help New Yorkers find good-paying jobs in the biotechnology sector. Working hand in glove with these outstanding biotechnology groups, we can continue to ensure that biotechnology becomes the gift that keeps on giving to the Hudson Valley.”

The groups joined together to launch this website after several large biotech companies were seeing trends of high-paying jobs being vacant for months and even years. This new site will allows employers to target, search and request certain skill sets and qualifications across NY and allow employees to do the same. In addition to implementing the site, HVEDC will also hold biotech job fairs, workshops, and training sessions.

Along with creating a new website, this partnership will allow growing companies to work with HVEDC and BioHud Valley to create new workforce development projects and initiatives to ensure prospective employees are qualified and up to date with all certifications and professional licenses to maximize their potential and contributions to their employers. By becoming a partner in this online portal, the leading employers in the Hudson Valley will be part of a one stop destination matching employees with employers and leveraging the power of the local workforce to create new economic opportunities.

The workforce and employee pool in the Hudson Valley is one of the most educated and qualified pool of applicants in the nation and this online site will allow companies to access the best New York State has to offer. HVEDC and NY BioHud Valley is committed to working with both employees and employers to ensure workers are constantly learning new skills, perfecting their trade and maximizing the use of new technologies to the benefit of Hudson Valley corporations. Many biotech companies have reported being unable to fill new job postings due to a lack of qualified applicants, and Schumer is pushing participation in this new site to reverse that trend.

Dear Company CEO:

I write to urge that your company partner with the New York State Biotechnology Association, Hudson Valley Economic Development Corporation and NY BioHud Valley to create a comprehensive, one-stop portal for both employers and potential job candidates. This online destination will match those seeking employment with vacant positions in companies like yours throughout the Hudson Valley and New York State.

In this new economy it is important we use all resources, and technologies, to match job seekers with open positions at your company. Throughout my travels in New York State, I have heard numerous stories of good paying jobs going unfilled because the company simply has not been able to find qualified applicants. In an economy with stubbornly high levels of unemployment, this makes no sense and indicates we need to do a better job of matching qualified workers with available positions, especially within growth sector, like biotechnology in the Hudson Valley. However, it is clear that there are qualified, unemployed candidates for these types of positions and it is our shared responsibility to match qualified applicants with vacant job opportunities.

By becoming an active partner, you will help oversee the development of this site, creating a new online tool to ensure you are hiring the most qualified and competent job applicants in a timely manner. By partnering with NYBA, HVEDC and NY BioHud Valley, your company will have be able to post career opportunities, explore career and workforce development, employee training, access to industry incubators, academic institutions and economic development officials to further the growth of your company.

To ensure maximum participation, NY BioHud Valley and NYBA are offering 10 free exclusive listings to establish this as the online portal for employers.  I look forward to hearing from you to discuss this exciting opportunity.
