Corporal Steven Blaine Riccione Post Office Will Be Renamed For Geneva Native, Tragically Killed In Vietnam War While Evacuating Wounded Soldiers In Battle

Schumer, Gillibrand: Renaming the Geneva Post Office After Riccione is a Fitting Tribute to His Bravery and Dedication to our Nation

Today, U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced that as a result Senate-passed legislation, the Post Office at 67 Castle Street in Geneva will be renamed the “Corporal Steven Blaine Riccione Post Office.” The post office renaming is in honor of Steven Riccione, a deceased Geneva native that volunteered for the Army during the Vietnam War and sacrificed his life while evacuating fellow soldiers that were wounded in battle. Schumer and Gillibrand said that today’s renaming is a fitting tribute to a brave American who gave his life for his country.

“Corporal Steven Blaine Riccione was an American hero, and by renaming the Geneva Post office after him we honor his courage, dedication and sacrifice,” said Senator Schumer. “It is a truly fitting tribute to a man who gave his life for his country.”

 
“Corporal Steven Blaine Riccione is truly a hometown hero,” Senator Gillibrand said. “He answered a call higher than any other, and served with bravery, honor and integrity. Naming the Geneva Post Office after him will honor his legacy, his family, and his sacrifice in the community he loved.”

Corporal Steven Blaine Riccione, a Geneva native, volunteered for the United States Army at age 20 during the Vietnam War. Riccione, a former Geneva High School student, was tragically killed in action in Quang Tin province in South Vietnam on Sept. 27, 1967 while helping evacuate wounded soldiers after a fierce battle with North Vietnamese troops.
