Here are some highlights of what Chuck has done for Long Island.

- Chuck secured funding for the accelerated
cleanup of the Brookhaven Labs. Chuck also secured funding
for additional scientific programs at Brookhaven such as the National
Synchitron Light Source.
- Chuck helped win over
$250 million in federal funding for Long Island projects like
expanding MacArthur airport, getting relief for lobstermen, and
renovating the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts in the fiscal
2001 budget.

Chuck helped Long Island win federal
approval for the creation of a Long
Island Viticultural Area that will allow the industry to continue
to grow and thrive.
- Chuck
brought industry leaders together with environmentalists to create
solutions to Long Island's power problems by using cleaner,
more efficient power plants.
- Chuck's
been working to find an acceptable compromise route to construct
a new Cross-Sound
Cable that will help stabilize electricity prices on both
sides of the Sound.
- Chuck
secured a federal Commercial
Fisheries Disaster Declaration for Long Island which made
the area eligible for federal funds to study and alleviate the
crisis in the lobster industry there.
- When Long Island hospitals were
threatened by Medicare cuts that would have plunged them into
crisis, Chuck
developed a plan and followed through, bringing a
relief package worth over $104 million to the area.

- Chuck sponsored legislation that
could save
LIRR commuters hundreds of dollars every year through a mass
transit tax credit.
- Chuck
helped secure over $660,000 dollars for the New York State Department
of Transportation to improve
ferry service on Long Island.
- Chuck
won $287,000
to complete an erosion control study of the Montauk Point Lighthouse
to protect Long Island's most recognizable and cherished landmark.
- Chuck
has worked to help scientists understand cancer clusters and find
ways to prevent and cure the disease, securing a 50% increase
in funding for the National Program of Cancer Registries, and
calling for
investigation into high cancer rates at nine Long Island locations.
- Chuck
negotiated an agreement to allow HIP
to continue serving Suffolk he face of a pull out by HMO Medicare
providers. Furthering his commitment to provide Long Island seniors
with a variety of affordable health care options, Chuck introduced
legislation to create
a new method of federal HMO reimbursement to encourage plans
to return to counties like Nassau and Suffolk.
- Chuck
was the first US Senator to open
a Long Island regional office so that his constituents on
the Island can have their voices heard and their problems handled.
