SCHUMER ANNOUNCES FULL SENATE APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEE APPROVES HIS REQUEST FOR SUNY ALFRED COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY- SCHOOL SLATED TO RECEIVE $500,000

Funding Will Be Used To Build Geothermal, Wind, Solar Model Installations

Senator Worked Closely with Subcommittee to Include Funding In FY2011 Spending Bill

Bill Will Now Be Sent To The Full Senate

U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand today announced that the full Senate Appropriations Committee has approved the FY11 Appropriations Bill which includes $500,000 for SUNY Alfred. The funding will be used to build geothermal, solar, and small wind model installations. The funding will help the region develop clean energy which will foster good paying jobs in an emerging market.

“SUNY Alfred is at the cutting edge of clean energy development and this investment will go a long way to make sure the school stays on top,” Schumer said. “Developing this clean energy technology will mean jobs for middle class families and economic growth throughout the Southern Tier. I’m going to be working hard to ensure that this funding makes it all the way through the Appropriations process.”

The funding approved for SUNY Alfred will be allocated to its College of Technology, a school with a long history in renewable energy research. The $500,000 allocated will help it continue its work in geothermal, solar, and wind technology, and will provide New Yorkers with training in the growing clean energy field.

Now that the bill has been approved by the full Senate Appropriations Committee, it will be sent to full Senate.  Then the bill will move towards Conference with the House and then to the President for signature.  Last week Schumer announced the funding had passed the Appropriations subcommittee.
