SCHUMER, GILLIBRAND ANNOUNCE OVER $1.2 MILLION IN FEDERAL FUNDING FOR WATER AND INFRASTRUCTURE UPGRADES IN CENTRAL NEW YORK

USDA Funding Will Be Used to Make Critical Water System Upgrades

New Haven, N.Y. – U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $1,266,000 in federal assistance for the Town of New Haven in Oswego County. The federal funding was allocated through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant program. Specifically, the Town of New Haven will receive $265,000 in federal grant funds along with a federal low-interest loan of $1,001,000 to install 17,750 linear feet of new water distribution mains and hydrants giving reliable water to 61 residences. The federal loan is set for 38 years at 1.875 percent.

“Nothing is more important than ensuring families in Oswego County and across New York have access to clean drinking water. That’s why I’ve continued the fight to provide our communities with the resources they need to maintain their sewer infrastructure,” said Senator Schumer. “This federal investment will allow the Town of New Haven to make essential upgrades to their water systems so they can continue to deliver clean and safe drinking water to their residents for generations to come.”

“These federal funds will allow the Town of New Haven to make critical upgrades to their water infrastructure,” said Senator Gillibrand, a member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. “This upgrade to the town’s water system will help protect the health and quality of life for residents and deliver clean water to more local families.”

“I am grateful for the help of Senator Schumer and Senator Gillibrand in securing this funding,” said Town of New Haven Clerk Debra J. Allen. “This funding will give many New Haven residents reliable access to clean water, a basic and fundamental resource.”

USDA Rural Development’s Water and Waste Disposal Program provides loans and grants to ensure that the necessary investments are made in water and wastewater infrastructure to deliver safe drinking water and protect the environment in rural areas.
