SCHUMER SLAMS TRUMP FREEZING $10 BILLION FOR CHILD CARE & VITAL SERVICES, PUNISHING INNOCENT CHILDREN AND HARDWORKING FAMILIES IN NEW YORK AND ACROSS AMERICA

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) released the following statement on reports that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services cruelly freezing $10 billion in funds for poor families in five blue states, including New York, jeopardizing child care and critical social services for thousands of American families and innocent children:

“To threaten to rip away billions for child care and other critical support for working families and their kids for political gain is beyond disgusting. Trump is pulling the rug out from millions of parents who now could be left high and dry with no option for child care. What kind of heartless person uses innocent kids as political pawns? This goes beyond targeting blue states. It is upending the lives working families and making our children pay the price for the sake of political games.”

“Instead of using children as political pawns, President Trump should be focused on lowering costs and making child care more affordable for hardworking American families, not taking away what is many parents’ only option for support.”

“President Trump must immediately unfreeze this funding to ensure that children, families, and child care providers who rely on this funding to keep the lights on can continue to operate without delay.”
