On Feburary 7th, U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer stood at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory to discuss recent NIH cuts which would put research centers like Cold Spring into jeopardy. Cold Spring Harbor Lab has developed life saving drugs that have saved many. The senator disucssed the cuts with researchers and the family of Emma Larson, a 6th grader who diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy. Experimental drugs developed at Cold Spring Harbor Lab have saved Emma's life. Senator Schumer reiterated that with these NIH cuts, labs like Cold Spring would not be able to develop life saving medication for kids like Emma.
