On December 18, 2023, standing at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Senator Schumer revealed critical new benefits he secured in the Inflation Reduction Act will be implemented at the start of 2024 to help lower healthcare costs for seniors across New York. The senator explained that this includes a $3,100 cap on prescription drug out-of-pocket costs in Medicare Part D. Schumer said these will work in with other major healthcare provisions he secured including making vaccines free for seniors and a $35 insulin cap for those on Medicare, to help make healthcare more affordable for those who need it most.
