Every year, Chuck commits to traveling to all62 counties in New York to meet with constituents.
On July 3, Senator Schumer stood at the Corning Senior Citizens Center in Corning, NY, to urge his colleagues in the House of Representatives to pass comprehensive robocall legislation as soon as possible. This push follows the recent passage of the bipartisan Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence (TRACED) Act in the Senate, which the Senator was a major cosponsor of. Senator Schumer said, despite federal ‘Do Not Call’ rules, robocalls and unwanted spam calls are getting worse by the day in Steuben County, with a staggering 7.1 million reported in June of this year alone in the 607 area code. The TRACED Act, introduced by U.S. Senators Ed Markey (D-MA) and John Thune (R-SD), would give federal agencies the tools and authority they desperately need to trace, prosecute, and enforce fines against scammers, as well as establish new requirements related to call authentication technology that could filter out robocalls before they reach the phones of unsuspecting Corning residents.
