Every year, Chuck commits to traveling to all62 counties in New York to meet with constituents.
9/2/21 - On the heels of last night’s torrent of rains and flooding from Hurricane Ida, U.S. Senator Charles Schumer detailed critical flooding and shoreline protections about to start on Long Island via a federally-funded project he championed called FIMP aka the Fire Island Inlet to Montauk Point project. Schumer said FIMP is now ready to start with a just-awarded $47.5 million contract for phase one. BUT Schumer revealed Phase two is slated to begin too late next year—in the middle of next year’s hurricane season. Schumer, today, said with the threat climate change brings to New York and Long Island, and the evidence of recent storms, that the Army Corps should start the next phase of FIMP shoreline and flood resiliency work before the next hurricane season sets in, not amidst or after.
