Every year, Chuck commits to traveling to all62 counties in New York to meet with constituents.
After Republicans' \"big, beautiful\" budget bill passed out of committee, U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer gathered with the Sisters of St. Joseph, other religious leaders, farmers, and seniors on Long Island to sound the alarm and warn of a hunger crisis that could impact tens-of-thousands locally. More than 150,000 Long Islanders across Nassau and Suffolk receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits every month and will be impacted by President Trump and Republicans' $300 billion cuts to SNAP and tax breaks for corporations and billionaires. As food insecurity rises and more Long Islanders are forced to rely on local food banks like Long Island Cares and Island Harvest, leaders in the industry are concerned about strains on the emergency food system that this bill could induce. To prevent local constituents from experiencing these devastating impacts, the senator urged Long Island's House Republicans to act now and reject the bill.
