On January 13, 2010, Schumer announced legislation to ban the toxic heavy medal cadmium that is found in children's jewelry and toys. The metal that is used in children's products is a carcinogen which can severely interfere with children's brain development. Senator Schumer was joined by Judy Braiman from the Empire State Consumer Project, as well as representatives from RAMP and the Coalition to Prevent Lead Poisoning.
