Every year, Chuck commits to traveling to all62 counties in New York to meet with constituents.
\n On October 7, 2010, Schumer toured the future location of the new Tri-County hospital in Perrysburg. After a disastrous flood last year, the hospital could not rebuild in its current location in Gowanda due to concerns about future flooding. Schumer successfully pushed the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to fully fund the relocation and rebuilding of the Tri-County Memorial Hospital in a secure location that would ensure local residents' access to the hospital. Initially, FEMA only offered to rebuild the hospital in the exact same location in which the flood occurred. Schumer and the local community objected, making the case that rebuilding a hospital in a known flood zone would put the future of the hospital and residents access to care in serious risk when a future storm came. Schumer was joined by hospital President and CEO Jonathan Lawrence, State Senator Cathy Young, Assemblyman Joe Giglio, Gowanda Mayor Dick Klancer, and Perrysburg Mayor Anthony Kota.
