On August 6, 2013 Schumer was at the Sixmile Waterworks Park in Albany to discuss the dangers of Powassan Encephalitis, a new tick-borne illness in the Capital Region. Schumer announced his support for legislation that would boost research for tick-borne illnesses and allocate more resources towards prevention and treatment.
