On February 18, 2010, Schumer spoke at an event at the GM Powertrain Engine Plant in Tonawanda. At the event, GM announced a $425 million investment in the plant that will create 470 jobs. The GM Powertrain Engine Plant in Tonawanda will be the home of the next generation of GM's fuel efficient Ecotec engine. Schumer discussed the many economic benefits of bringing these jobs to the area and told those gathered that the investment shows manufacturing is making a comeback in New York and throughout the country.
