\n On August 24, 2010, Schumer attended a groundbreaking ceremony for the Niagara Falls Customhouse which is set to undergo major renovations after Schumer worked to secure almost $3.5 million in funding for the project since 2004. The new Customhouse will feature a fully serviced Amtrak station and border inspection facility. The renovations will allow the Customhouse to become fully operating transportation hub bringing commerce and tourists to the area. Standing at the Niagara Falls Customhouse, Schumer was joined by U.S. Representative Louise Slaughter, Mayor Paul Dyster and local community and business leaders to break ground on the project. Schumer said that the project has been a long time in the making and will now finally get off the ground and soon function as the transportation hub that he and other officials envisioned.
