\nOn November 11, 2011, Senator Schumer awarded Sergent Ronald Agard his long overdue Purple Heart Medal. Agard was injured in Iraq in 2005 and was diagnosed with Traumatic Brain Injury, a condition which was not previously recognized by the VA for a Purple Heart. Schumer and Rockland County Veterans Services Director, Jerry Donnellen worked tirelessly to cut through the red tape and get Agard the award he truly deserved. Schumer was joined by Ronald Agard, Jerry Donnellen as well as many other veterans.
