Every year, Chuck commits to traveling to all62 counties in New York to meet with constituents.
On April 1, 2021 amid a troubling rise in anti-Asian hate crimes and standing alongside the Long Island Asian America community, U.S. Senator Charles Schumer, backed a new federal bill that would give the Department of Justice (DOJ) more tools and locals more help to stem the tide of intolerance happening across New York City and inciting worry on Long Island. The plan would allow the DOJ to investigate hate crimes faster and ease worry on the Island, in the city – and beyond. The bill, called the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act, would address the rise of hate crimes and violence targeted at Asian Americans by designating a specific point person at DOJ to expedite the review of COVID-19-related hate crimes, while providing more support for state and local law enforcement to respond to such crimes, while improving overall communication related to this unacceptable uptick in violence and worry.
