First, Schumer urged that the PSC extend the public comment period for another 30 days, which technically ended May 1st, so that ratepayers can learn more about this purchase and investigate serious concerns. The $1.5 billion transaction at a premium would have Fortis assume $500 million in debt, leading to the risk that ratepayers would have to absorb the cost of acquisition, and put upward pressure on rates.</p>"}}
