On February 6, 2012, Schumer called upon the Department of Homeland Security to reverse its decision to keep Onondaga County from using already-securing DHS grant money for radio frequency upgrades. With the upgrades, Onondaga County can join the 5-county Central New York Interoperability Network, to enhance emergency-responder communication in CNY. Schumer was joined by Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney, local law enforcement and county first responders.
