Every year, Chuck commits to traveling to all62 counties in New York to meet with constituents.
On September 27, 2010, Schumer met with the U.S. Navy, Northrop-Grumman, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), New York State Department of Environmental Protection (DEC), and local water districts. He demanded that the Navy and Northrop-Grumman begin working on proactive and comprehensive clean-up plan for toxic plumes seeping from the former defense manufacturing site that threatens the drinking water of tens of thousands of residents in Nassau County. Schumer asked state and federal agencies to oversee and help establish an aggressive, proactive plan to contain and clean up the spill before it contaminates drinking water wells. He also called on the Navy and Northrop Grumman to designate a dedicated fund to insure prompt payment for any costs that local water districts are forced to absorb in addressing impacts from the plume.
