Every year, Chuck commits to traveling to all62 counties in New York to meet with constituents.
On July 27, 2009, Schumer visited the Family Justice Center in Buffalo and unveiled new legislation to close a gaping hole in the federal law that prevents summer camps, children's groups and other not-for-profit organizations that work with children from gaining access to federal criminal background checks on new employees and volunteers. Under current law, most children's organizations only have access to the New York State database, and lack access to FBI databases. The Child Protection Improvements Act of 2009 would create a permanent, nationally-accessible background check solution for youth-serving organizations. Schumer was joined by Linda Ray, the Executive Director of the Family Justice Center, Buffalo Police Commissioner H. McCarthy Gipson, and representatives of various children's groups and not-for-profits. For further information on Chuck Schumer please visit: www.schumer.senate.gov
