Every year, Chuck commits to traveling to all62 counties in New York to meet with constituents.
On July 9, 2010, Schumer held a press conference in front of the Wiccopee Fire Department substation to urge the federal highway administration to fast track approval of emergency entrance to I-84 so first responders in Dutchess can finally have immediate access to this vital highway. The New York State Department of Transportation has completed the proposal for the breakthrough allowing direct access to the highway from the firehouse, but the project has been stalled until the Federal Highway Administration signs off. The Wiccopee Fire Department substation sits adjacent to I-84, but is forced to travel miles to reach the nearest interstate entrance ramps - causing 3-6 minute response time delays.
