\nOn July 1, 2014, Schumer visited the City of Newburgh Police Headquarters to announce his push to secure more police officers, which would make a difference in the crime fighting abilities of the city. Schumer also called on the Department of Justice to change COPS grant factors, allowing smaller cities with high crime rates to have the opportunity to apply for more officers. Schumer was joined by Newburgh Police Chief Michael Ferrara and Newburgh City Manager Michael Ciaravino.
