\n\nOn August 12, 2014, Schumer visited Kensico Dam Park in Valhalla to urge the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to investigate and proactively address a potential nationwide shortage of doxycycline, an antibiotic that is critical in treating Lyme Disease in both humans and animals. Despite how important Doxycycline is for treating Lyme Disease, the FDA has yet to get involved in this potential shortage even though it could limit access to the drug and is already significantly driving up the price. Schumer was joined by Patricia Smith, President of the Lyme Disease Association; Dr. Robert Amler, Vice President for Government Affairs, Dean and Professor of Public Health, New York Medical Center; Jill Auerbach, Chairwoman of the Lyme Disease Association of the Hudson Valley; and Rachel Dildilian, Facilitator of the Mid-Hudson Lyme Disease Support Group.
