On August 24, 2010, Schumer visited Alfred State College of Applied Technology, Allegany County. Schumer discussed the $500,000 he helped secure in this years budget for Alfred State College. The $500,000 will help create a new curriculum. This curriculum will help train students for jobs in the clean energy industry. Schumer was joined by Alfred State College President John Anderson, Dean of the School of Applied Science Craig Clark, students, faculty as well as community leaders.
