On October 4, 2012 Schumer visited the Kingston Trolley Museum, a victim of sever copper theft in the past year. Schumer announced his support for legislation that would crack down on metal theft that has severely impacted the local community, homes, and businesses. The legislation would prevent criminals from cashing in on stolen metals over $100 and would make tougher laws against stealing these types of materials. Schumer was joined by Kingston Trolley Museum Administrator, Dave Lowrie, County Executive of Ulster County, Mike Hein as well as local law enforcement officials of Ulster County.
