\nOn November 22, 2013, Senator Schumer--joined by Ken Eastwood, superintendent of Middletown City School District--visited Presidential Park Elementary School for its grand opening. Last year, Schumer helped secure $20 million in federal Race to the Top funds for the district, which was one of only 16 schools in the nation to receive the distinction. This massive federal grant made the opening of the new elementary school possible, and funded a number of other ventures in the Middletown School District, including: a two-year kindergarten program, the purchase of new technology equipment, and 26 new college-level courses for high-school students.
