Every year, Chuck commits to traveling to all62 counties in New York to meet with constituents.
On January 19, 2010, Schumer met with members from the Bannerman Castle Trust, Inc. and local officials to receive a briefing on efforts to prevent the rest of Bannerman's Castle from collapsing and to pledge his assistance in securing funds for its preservation. Schumer today announced that he will personally call the head of Department of Interior, Ken Salazar, to aggressively support Bannerman's application for funding under the Save America's Treasures program. Schumer said that he and his staff will work with the Trust and other local governments and preservation and development groups to identify and pursue other sources of emergency funding. Schumer said that it will take significant effort to secure the necessary funds to save the castle, but that the Hudson Valley's tourism industry is an economic engine for the state and must be preserved. Senator Schumer was joined by Neil Caplan, Executive Director of the Bannerman Castle Trust, Inc. and Erik Kulleseid, Deputy Commissioner for Open Space Protection. www.schumer.senate.gov
