On April 8, 2009 Schumer visited Wappingers Creek in Pleasant Valley to demand federal funding for the Fish and Wildlife Service. The funding will be used for the prevention of the spread of Didymo, an invasive alga that is devastating for fish and wildlife. Schumer was joined by Pleasant Valley Town Supervisor Frank Susczynski and William Janeway of the DEC.
