Every year, Chuck commits to traveling to all62 counties in New York to meet with constituents.
Standing at St. Mary’s Hospital in Montgomery County—one of New York’s most financially distressed hospitals, where 37% of the population relies on Medicaid—Senator Schumer sounded the alarm on the growing fallout from Trump’s devastating Medicaid cuts, part of the so-called “Big Ugly Betrayal” law. With over 1.5 million New Yorkers projected to lose healthcare coverage and hospitals already slashing services and staff—including a Capital Region facility that just ended outpatient surgeries—Schumer announced his new legislation, the Protecting Health Care and Lowering Costs Act. The bill would repeal these harmful Medicaid cuts and permanently extend the ACA premium tax credits set to expire at the end of this year, which, if not renewed, would raise healthcare costs for working families across the state.
