U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer today announced that the Greater Wawarsing Local Development Corporation of Ulster County has received a Rural Business Enterprise Grant for $99,000 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The grant will be used to develop a revolving loan fund to assist small business within the Greater Wawarsing community. The project will create up to 29 new jobs.

"In tough economic times like these, we must continue to support our small businesses," said Schumer. "This funding will give small businesses in the Greater Wawarsing community an economic boost. I will ensure that upstate job creation remains a top priority of mine. We cannot forget about our rural workers."

The grant is part of the USDA Rural Development annual budget.  USDA Rural Development's mission is to increase economic opportunity and improve the quality of life for rural residents.  Rural Development fosters growth in homeownership, finances business development, and supports the creation of necessary community and technology infrastructure.
