Schumer, Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee That Has Jurisdiction of U.S. Marshal Confirmations, Recommended Greco to President Obama, Who Has Nominated Him for the Position Today


Greco, a First Responder on 9/11, Currently Serves as Lieutenant of the NYS Police & Has 32 Years of Law Enforcement

U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer today announced, upon his recommendation, Michael Greco has been nominated by President Obama to be the next United States Marshal for the Southern District of New York. Schumer, who is a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee that has jurisdiction of U.S. Marshal confirmations, had previously recommended Greco to President Obama. Schumer today said that Greco would be the first Latino to hold the prestigious and vital U.S. Marshal post in the Southern District of New York. Greco currently serves as Lieutenant to the New York State Police and was also a first responder on September 11, 2001.

“Lt. Michael Greco’s tremendous experience in law enforcement makes him an ideal U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of New York,” said Schumer. “Michael has served his country with honor and excellence, having been a first responder on 9/11 and so much more in the realm of public service. I have no doubt he will make a first-rate U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of New York.”

His extensive experience and commitment to the public will be an invaluable asset to the U.S. Marshal Service and the Southern District of New York.” 

Michael Greco currently serves as Lieutenant of the New York State Police, a position he has held since 2007. Lt. Greco is a 32- year veteran with the New York State Police and has worked through the ranks, holding positions of Trooper, Sergeant, Station Commander, Investigator, Senior Investigator and finally, Lieutenant. He served as Sergeant, and then Station Commander, in Troop F (Middletown, Orange County and Palisades, Rockland County) and Troop K (Hawthorne, Westchester County). He was then appointed to the position of Investigator with the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI).  After about two years assigned to a “squad,” Greco was transferred to the elite New York Drug Enforcement Task Force in New York City. In this capacity, he worked many high profile cases while assigned to the “REDRUM” Group, investigating drug-related homicides and violent crimes. As Senior Investigator, Lt. Greco was assigned to the southern region of New York State attached to the Office of Human Resources. In this capacity, he oversaw all EEO-related investigations within the New York State Police in his assigned region.

In his current position, Lt. Greco serves as the New York State Police’s interagency liaison in New York City.  In this capacity, he has a myriad of responsibilities with the NYPD, in addition to NYC law enforcement agencies on the local, state and federal levels. During Lt. Greco’s career, he has earned numerous awards and citations including eight Superintendent’s Commendations and the Trooper William V. McDonagh Community Service Award.  Lt. Greco was also a first responder on September 11, 2001 and subsequently received a Superintendent’s Commendation for his life-saving efforts at Ground Zero. Additionally, he has received the Drug Enforcement Administration’s “Award of Honor” and a variety of community service awards including the NAACP “Unsung Hero” Humanitarian Award.

Lt. Greco has roots in the SDNY as he is a Bronx native and currently resides in Rockland County with his wife and four children. He received his Associate’s Degree in 2012 from Excelsior College.
