SCHUMER ANNOUNCES OVER $2.3 MILLION COMING TO GREATER ROCHESTER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT TO IMPROVE RUNWAY SAFETY

Grant Will Fund Extension of Runway at Greater Rochester International Airport

Schumer: Safe and Dependable Airport Service is Critical to Rochester Area

U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer today announced that Greater Rochester International Airport will receive a grant totaling $2,333,119 from the Department of Transportation to extend the end safety area on Runway 28, the second longest runway at the airport. The funds will increase operational safety by providing a longer graded strip at the end of the runway.

"This is great news for the Rochester area and for travelers who use Greater Rochester International," said Schumer. "Safe and dependable airport service is critical to the region's future, so we need to guarantee that the airport remains a hub to keep the region's economic engine running."

Greater Rochester International Airport, with help from FAA grants, made several improvements to runway 28 in recent years. This grant will allow the airport to continue that work that enhances safety.
