Schumer, Clinton Secure $1.25 Million For Greater Rochester International Airport

Funding included in FY05 Omnibus Appropriations bill

Airport would use federal funding to extend its runway

US Senators Charles E. Schumer and Hillary Rodham Clinton today announced that Congress passed $1.25 million in federal funding for the Greater Rochester International Airport. The funds are listed in the Transportation, Treasury, and Independent Agencies Appropriations section of the Fiscal Year 2005 Omnibus Appropriations bill which passed Congress this weekend. The bill now heads to the President for his signature.

"You dont need a degree in airport management to know that the more incentives you offer carriers, the more likely they are to bring service to the region," Schumer said. "This priority consideration for Greater Rochester International Airport is crucial so they can expand their capacity, make their airports more userfriendly, and above all meet new airport security requirements."

"Any opportunity we have to improve access to the Greater Rochester area is great news because more flights and better service simply means more jobs and more opportunities for the region. I am so pleased that we have been able to secure these funds for the Rochester International Airport for tourists, businesses and residents alike," Senator Clinton said.

The Greater Rochester International Airport will use the funds to extend its runway to allow for more planes to utilize their facility
