Joined by representatives of the Center for Economic Growth, US Senator Charles E. Schumer today hosted a demonstration of the Technology Roadmap online community. Schumer helped secured $315,000 in the Fiscal Year 2003 budget for the hightech centralized data source for businesses and communities that provides a detailed view of the Region's tech companies and assets.

"When Kelly Lovell presented the idea of the Technology Roadmap to me three years ago, I thought it was a great concept, but today we get to see the end result," Schumer said. "The Capital Region is loaded with innovation, and the Technology Roadmap will help us take our technology capabilities and bring what we've got to market. Nothing like this exists, and that's because this region really is a pioneer when it comes to R&D."

The Technology Roadmap website (www.technologyroadmap.org) provides an inventory and overview of the R&D assets within the Capital Region. The five targeted industries highlighted in the Roadmap are advanced materials, biotechnology/life sciences, energy, information technology, and nanotechnology. The Roadmap provides a meeting ground for technology organizations to learn about each other; and identify potential business, collaboration and commercialization partners. In addition, the Roadmap provides a centralized data source for businesses and communities to draw upon.

Schumer participated in a demonstration of the Roadmap, and was joined by Kelly Lovell, President of CEG; Tom Marusak, CEO of Comfortex; David Bobrek, CEO of Blasch Precision Ceramics; and other members of CEG.
