SCHUMER, GILLIBRAND ANNOUNCE $2,677,000 IN RURAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FUNDING FOR TOWN OF ROMULUS IN SENECA COUNTY
USDA Funding Will Be Used To Improve Critical Water Infrastructure
U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $2,677,000 in federal funding including a loan of $2,177,000.00 and a grant of $500,000.00 for the Town of Romulus in Seneca County. The funding was allocated through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Development program. Specifically, the Town of Romulus will use the funding to create a new water district that will increase access to safe, potable water to an additional 129 of town residents. The new water system will also provide fire protection to the residents.
“This federal investment is great news for the Town of Romulus,” said Senator Schumer. “These federal funds will help support critical water infrastructure upgrades and will improve potable water access for over 100 residents. I am proud to announce this federal investment and will continue to fight to make sure that rural communities have the tools they need to protect and maintain their infrastructure.”
“This investment will help facilitate a critical infrastructure project that will bring safe and reliable water to dozens of residents in the Town of Romulus,” said Senator Gillibrand. “These funds will provide the necessary resources to build a brand new water district, which will help deliver clean water and protect public health in the area.”
"Currently, residents in this area either don't have access to ground water or have to maintain a private system to draw water from the lake at their own expense, which can be costly. This new district will provide these people with dependable, safe water. We will also install dry hydrants which will allow fire fighters to draw lake water directly out of the pipelines to more effectively fight fires in the area. This new water district will increase safety overall in this region," said David Kaiser, Romulus Town Supervisor.
