SCHUMER, GILLIBRAND ANNOUNCE MORE THAN $300K IN FEDERAL FUNDING FOR ONEONTA MUNICIPAL AIRPORT IN OTSEGO COUNTY
Federal Dept. of Transportation Funding Will Be Used To Make Critical Infrastructure Upgrades
U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $306,255 in federal funding for the Oneonta Municipal Airport in Otsego County. The funding was allocated through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). With these funds, the airport will be able to expand its aircraft apron by 2,200 square yard in order to provide additional space for aircraft parking.
“Keeping our airports up-to-date is crucial to attracting business and visitors to the region,” said Senator Schumer. “With this funding, the Oneonta Municipal Airport will be able to make the critical upgrades necessary to provide additional parking for its aircraft. This expansion will keep the airport and its planes in tip-top shape for the passengers and pilots that fly in and out of Otsego County every day.”
“This funding will help advance safety operations at the Oneonta Municipal Airport,” said Senator Gillibrand. “Investing in our airport’s infrastructure enables safer, more efficient service for the businesses and travelers who rely on it every day. I will continue to push for resources that enhance efficiency and public safety that New Yorkers can rely on.”

This project will ease service disruptions at busy times and allow for more aircraft parking, making travel in and out of the airport quick and efficient for residents and visitors alike. We greatly appreciate the support of Senators Schumer and Gillibrand in acquiring the funding to make this project a reality,” said Oneonta Mayor Gary Herzig.
This funding is awarded through the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) and is administered by DOT’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The Airport Improvement Program provides grants to public agencies for the planning and development of public-use airports that are included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS). Funds obligated for the AIP are drawn from the Airport and Airway Trust fund, which is supported by user fees, fuel taxes, and other similar revenue sources.
