SCHUMER, GILLIBRAND ANNOUNCE MORE THAN $760K IN FED FUNDING FOR SYRACUSE HANCOCK INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT IN ONONDAGA COUNTY

Federal Transportation Funding Will Allow Airport to Purchase Critical Equipment & Improve Runway Safety

U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $762,300 in federal funding for the Syracuse Hancock International Airport in Onondaga County. This funding was allocated through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This funding will allow the airport to purchase vital equipment needed for snow removal during the winter months as well as improve runway safety by removing obstructions.

“Making sure our runways are clear for takeoff is essential for the safety of our Central New York travelers,” said Senator Schumer. “This much-needed funding will allow Syracuse Hancock International to improve safety on its runway and purchase the needed equipment to keep pilots and travelers safe during the winter months. Ensuring our Upstate airports, which are economic engines, have top-notch resources will always be a priority of mine.”

“This funding will help advance runway safety operations at Syracuse Hancock International Airport,” said Senator Gillibrand. “Syracuse Hancock International is a vital economic anchor that Central New York businesses and travelers rely on every day. I will continue to push for funding to help ensure the safety of passengers and crew members.”

This funding is awarded through the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) and is administered by DOT’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The Airport Improvement Program provides grants to public agencies for the planning and development of public-use airports that are included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS). Funds obligated for the AIP are drawn from the Airport and Airway Trust fund, which is supported by user fees, fuel taxes, and other similar revenue sources.
