SCHUMER, GILLIBRAND ANNOUNCE OVER $115K IN FEDERAL FUNDING TO PRO ACTION OF STEUBEN & YATES, INC.

Funding Will Be Used to Expand and Upgrade Child Care Services in Steuben, Schuyler, and Chemung Counties

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced $115,665 in federal funding for the Pro Action of Steuben & Yates, Inc. to help expand child care services in the region and provide training opportunities to staff. Specifically, the funding will be used to hire two career development specialists to provide outreach, education, and support to child care providers. It is projected that this funding will raise incomes for 20 child care providers throughout Steuben, Schuyler, and Chemung counties.

“Boosting access to affordable childcare couldn’t be more important, especially with so many parents in the Southern Tier working long and difficult hours. With these federal funds, Pro Action of Steuben & Yates will expand childcare services for working families in Steuben, Schuyler and Chemung Counties,” said Senator Schumer. “I’m proud to announce this federal funding that will help ease the burden on parents in the Southern Tier, and will always fight to ensure that child care providers have the tools they need to support families and young children.”

“All families deserve access to high-quality child care for their children,” said Senator Gillibrand. “This federal funding will help make child care more accessible for working families in Steuben, Schuyler, and Chemung counties. I will continue fighting to ensure that families have the resources they need for their children to succeed.”

The funding was allocated through the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC). The ARC is an economic development agency of the federal government and 13 state governments focusing on 420 counties across the Appalachian region. More information can be found here.
