SCHUMER, GILLIBRAND ANNOUNCE OVER $167K IN FEDERAL FUNDING FOR BISHOP SHEEN ECUMENICAL HOUSING FOUNDATION, INC. IN MONROE COUNTY

Funding Will Be Used to Help Rehabilitate Homes in the Finger Lakes Region

U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $167,720 in federal funding for the Bishop Sheen Ecumenical Housing Foundation, Inc. in Monroe County. The funding is provided through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Housing Preservation Grants program and will be used to help address health and safety hazards in 26 homes in Ontario, Seneca, Steuben, Wayne, and Yates Counties. Specifically, the funding will help install energy-efficient technology, remove lead-based paint from homes, and alleviate overcrowding.

“With winter right around the corner, nobody wants to be worrying about not living in a safe and affordable home,” said Senator Schumer. “This funding for the Bishop Sheen Ecumenical Housing Foundation, Inc. will help ensure that all our neighbors are living in safe, healthy homes. I’m proud to announce this federal investment for the Rochester-Finger Lakes region because having a decent and affordable roof over your head is something that all New Yorkers deserve.”

“No one should ever be without a safe place to call home,” said Senator Gillibrand. “This funding is great news for Bishop Sheen Ecumenical Housing Foundation, Inc., which will be able to address safety hazards in homes across the Finger Lakes Region to help ensure that families aren’t living in unsafe housing conditions. I will always fight for the resources our communities need to thrive.”

The USDA Housing Preservation Grants program provides loans and grants to help rehabilitate and repair homes in low-income and rural communities. More information may be found here.
